Every Rhodes we restore for sale receives our highest level of craftsmanship, with over 30 hours dedicated to bringing it to exceptional playing condition. Our process goes beyond the original factory setup, carefully preserving the instrument's iconic tone while addressing any of the wear and tear that it has experienced over the decades. Throughout the restoration we prioritize period-correct vintage components whenever possible, or select the highest-quality reproduction parts when necessary. In the end, our aim is to bring out the best of the Rhodes while staying true to the sound of its production period and ensure that it is ready to be enjoyed for decades more to come. All of our restorations come with our highest seal of approval and are covered by warranty.
All Suitcase amplifiers go through our expert restoration process that includes replacing all of the electrolytic capacitors, improvements to the power supply and noise floor, and bias the power amplifier.
This piano comes from early in the “Late Torrington” period (1974-1976), before Rhodes' mid-1975 hardware update. It has the earlier wood harp support and hybrid wood/plastic hammers, rather than the aluminum harp support and fully molded plastic hammers that replaced them later that year. The hybrid hammers give a touch more “bounce” between key and hammer than the tighter-feeling all-plastic hammers that came after — a subtly different touch some players prefer. Tonally it still carries the Late Torrington tine's balanced, warm bark: deep, smooth bass and barky midrange, with a touch less bright attack in the treble than 1971-1973 pianos. Rhodes changed its branding from “Fender Rhodes” to “Rhodes” in mid-1974, though this was a change in name only — the cube hammer tips and Torrington tines from the “Fender Rhodes” era were the same parts used through early 1976.
