Because the CP is a true acoustic piano at its core — hammers striking real strings, no synthesis involved — our restoration covers full piano tuning and regulation in addition to the electronics, pickups, and hardware that make it stage-ready. We use period-correct parts wherever we can, and the best available reproduction parts where we can't, always working to keep the CP's unmistakable bright, percussive character intact.

Introduced in 1976, the CP-70 was Yamaha's answer to a problem no electric piano had fully solved: how to get a real acoustic piano sound on the road. It's built around a genuine piano action — wooden keys striking hammers against real strings — but drops the soundboard in favor of piezo pickups mounted directly to the harp, giving it an accurate acoustic voice with far less risk of feedback than earlier electric pianos. The 73-key harp and key assembly split apart and fold down for transport, with the legs storing inside the lid.
