Coke Bottle Green catches a wave!
It’s no secret that we’re big fans of surf green. We’ve re-tolexed a handful of Rhodes and Wurlitzers and even a Clavinet with the groovy pastel finish. Most have been paired with a white or cream accent color on the lid, or occasionally with a sparkletop finish. So when we were approached with the opportunity to refinish a Yamaha CP-70 in surf green we were stoked to once again paddle our way out into the surf.
The most exciting aspect of this restoration was producing a see-through plexiglass harp cover with an accent tint to compliment the surf green tolex. Our plexiglass shop calls this particular green plexiglass color “Coke Bottle Green,” and the name seems appropriately retro for the aesthetic we were going for. As you’ll see in the photos, we replaced the top and bottom panels of the CP-70’s harp with plexiglass so you can see straight through the strings. –This stunning finish was a first for us, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. Enjoy:
